Noughtilus is a free daily maths puzzle run by Zureus Ltd. You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name or email address. This page says what the game keeps, and why.
Your player ID
The first time you open the game, it makes a random player ID and keeps it in your browser. It is not linked to your name, your email address or your device. It lets the game recognise you when you come back, so it can keep your daily result, your streak and your best time. Your ID is shown here once the game has made one.
What we keep on our server
- Your daily results. For each day you play the daily puzzle: your player ID, the date, when you pressed Start, your time, your number of moves and the order of blocks you finished with. Your streak, best time and the chart of your times are worked out from these.
- Usage events. Simple records of what happens in the game, such as opening it, starting or finishing a puzzle, choosing a level or pressing Share. Each one carries your player ID and the time. They help us see what is used and what is not.
- Puzzle codes. The codes of the puzzles you play for fun.
- Your country and continent. Cloudflare tells our server roughly where a request came from, and we keep the country and continent. We do not keep your IP address, and we do not keep details of your browser or device.
None of this includes your name or email address, and we do not use it to identify you. We do not sell it, and we do not share it for advertising.
What stays in your browser
The game keeps a few items in your browser's local storage: your player ID, the level you last chose, whether you have seen the introduction, the day's puzzles for playing for fun, and a finished daily result that has not reached our server yet. This is needed to make the game work. Clearing your browser data removes it, and you will then get a new player ID.
Cookies
We do not use cookies, and we do not use advertising or tracking tools. The game's fonts and scripts are served from the game's own site, not from other companies.
Who handles the data
Zureus Ltd decides what is kept and why. The site and its database are hosted by Cloudflare, which also keeps its own standard technical logs to deliver the site and keep it secure (these can include your IP address).
Why we keep it
To run the game: to give you your daily result, streak and best time, and to understand how the game is used so it can be improved. We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving a free game, and the data is kept to the minimum that does this. It is kept for as long as the game runs, unless you ask for it to be deleted.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data held under your player ID, or to delete it. Email us with your player ID (shown above). Because the ID is not tied to your name, we can only find your data from the ID, so keep it if you may want to ask. If you are unhappy with how we handle data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
